Class/Race Achievement Titles

Class/Race Achievement Titles   So a lot of people are upset about the new “first CLASSX to level to 80″ achievements/feats of strength, myself being one of those people. I’m not upset because I’ll never get the “I leveled my class to 80 first” title but because I’ll never get “awesome class title” or “homeland title”. The titles used just do not make sense. How is someone with no life a better Paladin or Blood elf than I am? Does it make them anymore loyal to Quel’thalas? Or any more of a Crusader? I really want to get one of those titles but I know that I’ll never be able to get them in their current form.   I have no problem that Blizzard award people titles for getting to 80 first but I do have a problem with them giving away a title that any player would be proud to wear.   So my suggestion is to change the “first class to level 80″ title to something like: X the Achiever X the Dedicated XClass X… has no life (Joking about this one of course).   Anything like the above would be appropriate.   Then the class specific/race specific titles would be given away for completing a very long, complex level 80 class chain. You could also have a “homeland” quest

Oracle and Frenzyheart dailies

Oracle and Frenzyheart dailies I have unlocked them.   *Spoiler* If you read this it will ruin the story line.   This is how the quest chain started for me.   There is a quest to kill a Named Tiger/Panther from the human female npc located at the quest hub in Rivers Heart.   Once you kill the Tiger/Panther the Frenzyheart NPC offers a quest. This leads to series of quests. Once you complete all of them he will ask you to bring him one of the injured Oracles to torture it. You actually help the Oracle and become hostile with Frenzyheart and friendly with Oracles. This leads you to do series of quests for oracles. The last quest sends you to the cave by Pillar of Blood. In this cave there is a lich who captured one of the heroes from Oracles and one from Frenzyheart.   I have soloed him, however it took me several tries and it was a pretty brutal fight. He is a 77 elite, chucks frostbolts like noones bussiness, icelances and also has icy veins himself. Only way is was able to solo him is ice barrier + imp frostward provided me with enough protection.   Once he drops below a certain % of HP he becomes immune and makes the 2 heroes from each tribe fight you. At this point this is where you choose your faction, he even states this himself. Now it is time to choose, or

Epic flying mount required?

Epic flying mount required? As zones keep getting larger, it feels like there is a push to make an epic flying mount required for all characters. Northrend is considerably bigger than the Outlands and it appears that you need a flying mount to even get to Icecrown. In the latest interview it was actually revealed that the quest hub for Icecrown would be a zeppelin. If that zeppelin moves it will probably be a serious pain for slow mounts.   While it is still possible to get around with a 60% flying mount, the increased zone size makes it take an unreasonably large amount of time to get anywhere. Not only that, but the skies of Dragonblight are populated with hostiles now and if the same holds true for Storm Peaks and Icecrown it will be pretty hard for you to get around on a 60% mount. For players with multiple high level characters I’m just wondering how reasonable it is to assume that all characters will have an epic flier.   I understand that there will be increased money at level 80 and that relatively speaking the cost of epic flying skill will decrease, but if someone has 10 level 70 characters that’s 50k that they have to pay to get around at 77-80.

Northrend needs to be more epic!

Northrend needs to be more epic! I like the new content. I really do, but something about it makes it feel “same old, same old” which is kind of annoying.   First off, there’s the Horde arrival into Northrend. The most interesting of the two arrivals is Warsong Hold. The first thoughts on zoning into Borean Tundra can be summed up as “what the heck am I flying into?”. Then you feel a rush of excitement as you look around this really neat orc fort, then disappointment as it ends up being a lot smaller than it looked as you flew into it.   The Howling Fjord one is far worse, you essentially get off the zeppelin like you just arrived at Grom’gol. Boring.   Then there’s the little event that goes on at Warsong Hold. Riflemen appear at the front gate, and waves of flying spider nerubians begin charging the front gate, only to be mowed down by the riflemen. That’s a pretty pointless attack, and only cool for the first 3 waves, then it goes on for another 8 or so.   Vengeance Landing has an event triggered by a quest, where Keleseth from Utgarde Keep shows up with some Vrykul and annihilates some Forsaken archers. Other than that, it’s a pretty safe town.   This pales in comparison to Hellfire Peninsula, where when you

Analyst: WoW to add a million players in a year

Analyst: WoW to add a million players in a year At least one person who claims to be in the know believes that WoW ain’t done yet: Colin Sebastian, an analyst at Lazard Capital Markets, believes that by the end of 2009, World of Warcraft will have picked up at least another million players around the world, in addition to the 10.9 million he says are already in the game. The launch of Wrath of the Lich King and the surge in popularity of the game in China will bring the game up to as much as 12 million players before the end of 2009. There’s no question that WoW’s population has slowed down lately — the last time we heard an official update from Blizzard was way back in January, and while this analyst claims there are more nowadays, there’s no question that things have plateaued for the moment. But maybe there are some more folks out there who haven’t played yet, and maybe Wrath of the Lich King will bring them into the fold. He also mentions Warhammer Online, as you might expect (isn’t that pretty much a requirement anytime you talk about MMO populations these days?), but he’s landed on the same conclusion both Blizzard, Mythic, and all of their players have already ended up at: WAR isn’t really going to affect what WoW

Insider Trader: Crafting achievements pre-Wrath

Insider Trader: Crafting achievements pre-Wrath   Times are changing. Where previously you could merely craft epic swords and new-fangled flying machines, you can now craft success. Achievement points, the latest addictive means of displaying your awesomeness, are all the rage, and can be crafted up in a jiffy. Well, maybe two jiffies. Solution to end keyloggin/hijacks

Solution to end keyloggin/hijacks   I would like to put forth a suggestion to add one step to the sign in process that would prevent any accounts from being damaged by key-loggers / hijackers ever again. This solution will be simple from the end user perspective, but may not be on the server side. Though I am not privy to the setup on the server side I am sure Blizzard employees can address any issue there to implement the solution.   Solution Summary:   Upon successfully entering in their correct User Name and Password an additional screen is presented to the player. This screen will present the player one of his/her own characters (selected by the server) and have him/her click the character’s server & name from two separate lists; lists that also contain incorrect selections. Three (3) incorrect submissions will cause the account to be auto-locked, password changed, and an automated email to be sent to the players contact email on file; containing a notice of the incorrect log in and instructions to retrieve the new password.   In Depth Description: (Lacking any artistic talent/skill what so ever I will do my best to concisely describe it.)   The new screen will appear after login and have 3 [three] sections:   The left section will have one of the

Nethaera talks about supporting roleplayers

Nethaera talks about supporting roleplayers There’s a huge forum thread over on the forums right now (though it’s been going for the better part of a month) about Blizzard putting in more for roleplayers — player housing, surnames, and “a more interactive world” are all asked for, and much later in the thread, Nethaera does weigh in with a nice long statement about how Blizzard is dealing with all of this stuff. The bottom line, as always, is that there’s only so many hours in the day, and Blizzard has to prioritize what gets worked on. And as of yet, neither player housing nor surnames or any of the other suggestions have made their way to the top of the list. Which makes sense — as many roleplayers as there are, nobody would really call them the primary audience of the game. There are definitely other games out there that are much better for defining a character. Which doesn’t mean that we’ll never see these things ingame — player housing has been wanted (and promised) for a long time, and surnames are something that’s common in almost every MMO but World of Warcraft. Neth just says that it’s a matter of time, and that while player housing is still on the horizon, the world of Northrend will be more

Official: talents reset with 3.0.2

Official: talents reset with 3.0.2 I’ve got a special report in hand from the department of obvious news: we will all get a talent refund when patch 3.0.2 hits, still expected to be next week (four days). Just like the big pre-BC patch, 3.0.2 (“Echoes of Doom“) will give us access to the new talents that we will be enjoying in Wrath of the Lich King, as well as (for many classes) new skills. And since the talent trees are so drastically changed, they probably couldn’t let us keep our current specs in many cases even if they wanted to. Obviously we won’t be able to access the level 75 and 80 skills until we jet off to Northrend and get some leveling in, but a lot of skills have been retconned in, so to speak. Here are a few examples of new tricks you’ll learn from your class trainers, listed with what class they’re for and at what level you can learn them. ·         Dismantle (Rogue, level 20). This one quite honestly looks overpowered to me (speaking as someone who plays a Rogue), but we’ll see. ·         Revive (Druid, level 12). Thank the maker; this has been a long time coming. ·         New icon for Sentry Totem (Shaman) (not really). There are more where those came from. And that’s quite
