As zones keep getting larger, it feels like there is a push to make an epic flying mount required for all characters. Northrend is considerably bigger than the Outlands and it appears that you need a flying mount to even get to Icecrown. In the latest interview it was actually revealed that the quest hub for Icecrown would be a zeppelin. If that zeppelin moves it will probably be a serious pain for slow mounts.
While it is still possible to get around with a 60% flying mount, the increased zone size makes it take an unreasonably large amount of time to get anywhere. Not only that, but the skies of Dragonblight are populated with hostiles now and if the same holds true for Storm Peaks and Icecrown it will be pretty hard for you to get around on a 60% mount. For players with multiple high level characters I’m just wondering how reasonable it is to assume that all characters will have an epic flier.
I understand that there will be increased money at level 80 and that relatively speaking the cost of epic flying skill will decrease, but if someone has 10 level 70 characters that’s 50k that they have to pay to get around at 77-80.
