Engineering Schemata Ideas
Engineering Schemata Ideas
I’m sure people are getting sick of the Engineering threads; but a lot of them are complaints and I know something Blizzard wants is well-written feedback. This thread is not for whining, but for putting together ideas to rectify the problem. Engineering is a creative profession, most likely one of the reasons it is so under-developed, as it takes time to come up with good ideas that aren’t gobbled up by the Trading Card Game. So, let’s offer our collective minds to give as many unique, fun, crazy, useful, and wacky ideas, that can only be described as an Engineering item.
First of all, I would love to fully endorse the idea presented in this thread: This is a great way to keep Engineering as the profession where you need a ton of parts and a lot of dedication, as well as offer us countless more recipes.
Upgrades.
Firstly, there are many old favorites that could easily be brought back in a newer form.
- Practice Lock – I’m sure rogues, engineers or not, would be grateful for higher level Practice Locks to work up their lockpicking skill. Perhaps they can even have a few nuts and bolts, even a recipe, inside.
- Deflectors/Reflectors - Higher level versions of the elemental reflectors would be highly sought after. Perfect as reputation rewards, they could have a damage shield to certain elements as well as resistance.
- Explosive Critters – There should be a higher level version of the Explosive Sheep, nothing says fun Engineering like a fiery, mechanical ball of cute fur/wool.
- Goblin Land Mine – A more potent version of this would have some great uses in PvP, maybe even some limited use on movement-based encounters in PvE.
- Gnomish Universal Remote - Even though there’s no limit on it, perhaps a non-trinket version could be made. Goblin Jumper Cables were taken out of the trinket slot.
- Dragonling - Most engineers were extremely disappointed that there was no dragonling update in Burning Crusade, but those who gained rep with the Netherwing got a Nether Whelp trinket. The new Dragonling (and perhaps the older ones) would need some obvious improvements however: A much shorter cooldown, nothing close to an hour, baseline stats to rectify giving up a trinket, better AI so that they actually go and attack, and scaling. How the original three were done with marvelous, with how they slowly gained abilities (Mithril had an AoE, Arcanite had a Flame Buffet).
- Voice Modulator – A perfect idea for a tinker, one for the neck, even!
- Goblin Mortar – The idea behind what was effective a bomb with charges, one that you could reload, was great. Though it should be made a non-trinket, to match Portable Bronze Mortar. Just something that you can reload for a third of the cost, again.
- Gnomish Shrink Ray - It was given to the mobs in Mechanaar, but Engineers didn’t even get a Super Shrink Ray in Burning Crusade! The size difference between the two rays doesn’t have to be much or any at all, but the attack power debuff could be a flat damage debuff, as I’m sure smaller fireballs only feel like a match being put on your skin.
- Goblin Bomb Dispenser – A handy device, take down the cooldown quite a bit, however. Perhaps even merge it with the Goblin Mortar, if you think a limitless bomb on a short cooldown is too much. It is a dispenser, after all, not a matter generator.
- Gnomish Mind Control Cap – Almost everyone was disappointed by the level cap placed on this. I’m sure a more reliable Mind Control would be worth giving up a head enchant for a tinker slot.
- Goblin Dragon Gun/Gnomish Flame Turret – Both could be brought back, possibly merged. Though even at their respective levels, they were a bit on the weak side, so buffs would be needed, especially if it was a consumable.
- Gnomish Death Ray – Another one held by the blasted Engineers in Mechanaar. Just beef it up and bring it back.
- Goblin Rocket Helmet - This was also forced to be weak in fear of it being too powerful. I could see this easily being a “replacement” for Repentance as the Mind Control Cap is a replacement for the real Mind Control. Short duration in PvP, longer duration in PvE, cooldown right above the duration (so that it isn’t as good as Repentance). Definitely an interesting aspect for some classes to give up a head enchant for an extra crowd control ability.
- Toolbox - Engineering is the only profession stuck with a 24 slot profession bag, yet it has the most parts. I am aware there was an Adamatite Toolbox that was 28 slots and to be in Burning Crusade, but it mysteriously disappeared with the portable mailbox. Like the mailbox, though, it should be brought back.
- Teleporters – There needs to be some Engineering teleporters somewhere in Northrend. Maybe just one in the Dalaran Engineering Shop, or maybe multiple elsewhere, perhaps one in Storm Peaks, one in Icecrown?
Whew. To think, most of those changes are just bumping numbers up on existing items. And I’m sure many Engineers would be happy with just those. I know, in actuality, it may be a bit more work than typing out numbers, but it is simply than coding completely new things. I’m sure everyone would appreciate this, Blizzard who gets to “cop out” while throwing Engineers a bone, and Engineers who get the reasons they leveled the profession back into their rotations.
Now for the new ideas. Anyone else can feel free to add to these.
Goblin
For those who love explosions, my chosen discipline.
- Goblin Fireproof Boots – Foot tinker. Gives Fire Resistance and makes you immune to other engineer’s Land Mines and explosive-based stuns.
- Goblin Self Immolation Kit – Allows the user to set self on fire, causes Fire damage to nearby enemies and has a graphic similar to the Fire Shield used by mobs in later Burning Crusade instances.
- Goblin Piggy Bank - A small creature you can summon and give a small amount of money to, receiving a bomb in exchange. You can hear cackling inside.
Gnomish
The gadgets we all love (except Goblins, we hate ‘em).
- Gnomish Hypno Disc – You are getting sleepy, very sleepy… Causes the opponent (or yourself) to fall asleep for a short time. If they wake up before the duration ends, they get a debuff on a random stat.
- Equalization Ray – Turns the engineer into a copy of the target, visually. Also grants a small attack power or spell power bonus depending on if the target has mana or not.
Unstable Canister – Spews out a green cloud around you, turning everyone around you into a Leper Gnome, reducing their stats. You’re not immune to this effect.
General
Schemata for all!
- Scuba Diving Kit – Neck tinker. Increase the time you can spend underwater before your breath runs out.
- Tear Gas Grenade - Tosses a canister of sorrows at a location, causing everyone to cry and mourn the most recent tragic events to their race, class, profession, etc.
- Electro-static Pointing Device – Epic Wand. A replacement for those of us who cannot use guns.
- Idol of the Echo-Domes - Epic Idol. Increases the healing done to the druid by some percentage. The Ethereal’s Echo-Dome technology, now in the palm of your hand!
- Highly Combustible Totem - Epic totem. Increases the critical strike chance of Shocks by some amount.
- Scribblesprawl Libram - Epic libram. Perhaps gives some bonus Nature damage to Paladin Judgements. I admit, I’m not the best on the Paladin class. Written in the illegible pen of a genius.
- Ectoplasmic Drainer - Just in time for Wrath, an Eagan’s Blaster for Engineers, made specifically to weaken undead and siphon their powers.
- Quick Repair Kit - Basically a health potion for siege engines; usable by anyone. There is huge room for Engineers to make cash by making things associated with the new siege technology! Yet, all we get is “major” damage to buildings, nothing associated with the vehicles.
- Portable Fuel Tank – Basically a mana potion for siege engines; usable by anyone.
- Overclocking Mega-Adjuster – Temporarily boosts the damage output of your siege engine; usable by anyone.
Reserving a post in case the first grows too large.
Feel free to add more. I know I will be. This is just what I came up with on the spot.
Please do not add trivial whines in this topic; the whole reason I made this one was because the other threads on Engineering are filled with nothing but unhelpful “Blizz hates us!” comments. I’m not going to debate Blizzard’s stance on a profession, just offer creative solutions to the problem; something I’m sure Blizzard will be relieved to see in place of the constant fuel being dumped on the fire.
Suggested ideas.
Tinkers
Partial Adrenal Lobotomy Machine - Tinkers a pair of Partial Adrenal Lobotomy Machines onto the engineer’s helm, granting increased stealth detection and +40 strength
Can cause dizziness, fainting, and internal hematomas on your spouse.
Cortex Auto-correctors - Tinkers a pair of Cortex Auto-Correctors onto the engineer’s helm, granting increased stealth detection and +40 agility
Now with extra brain damage!
Cerebral Pith – TInkers a Cerebral Pith onto the engineer’s helm, granting increased stealth detection and +40 intellect
Keep away from cold, heat, moisture, dryness, magma, ice, air, water, and The twisting Nether.
Deity-sight probes - Tinkers a Deity-sight probe onto the engineer’s helm, granting increased stealth detection and +40 spirit
Exercise extreme caution if you decide to listen to anything you hear while under its effects.
Ricochet Destabilizer – Tinkers a Ricochet Destabilizer onto the engineer’s bow or gun, allowing it to accumulate Static charges every 8 seconds, up to a maximum of 10. Static charges allow ammunition fired from the weapon to ricochet, hitting up to 5 targets within 10 yards of the initial target and consuming all static charges, and can hit the same target multiple times. The chance to ricochet increases with the amount of static charges you have.
Negative EMP generator - Tinkers a Negative EMP generator onto the engineer’s trinket, giving it the ability to refresh the cooldowns on all Equipped item abilities. Can sometimes backfire, putting all equipped item abilities on cooldown.
Can sometimes generate a Negative-Negative Emp!
Hyperspeed Matrix – Tinkers a Hyperspeed Matrix onto a weapon, giving it a chance on melee hit, ranged hit, or on successful spell cast to increase the haste rating of the wielder by 750 for 7 seconds.
Not for use on small animals or while caffeinated.
[Schematic: Ley-Line Analyzers]
Permanently attaches a pair of Ley-Line Analyzers to the lenses of any Engineering goggles, permanently adding up to 55 Spellpower and 35 Hit Rating to them. Only your own goggles may be tinkered in this way, and tinkering your goggles causes them to become soulbound.
“Guaranteed* to put you in better touch with the Nether!”
[Schematic: Battle-Scopic Displays]
Permanently attaches a pair of Battle-Scopic Displays to the lenses of any Engineering goggles, permanently adding 85 Attack Power and 35 Hit Rating to them. Only your own goggles may be tinkered in this way, and tinkering your goggles causes them to become soulbound.
“Guaranteed* to let you strike the most nimble of targets!”
[Schematic: Soul-Guiding Lamps]
Permanently attaches a pair of Soul-Guiding Lamps to the lenses of any Engineering goggles, permanently adding up to 55 Spellpower and 20 Mana per 5 seconds to them. Only your own goggles may be tinkered in this way, and tinkering your goggles causes them to become soulbound.
“Guaranteed* to bring salvation to the most doomed target!”
[Schematic: Self-Preservation Prisms]
Permanently attaches a pair of Self-Preservation Prisms to the lenses of any Engineering goggles, permanently adding 40 Defense Rating and 42 Dodge Rating to them. Only your own goggles may be tinkered in this way, and tinkering your goggles causes them to become soulbound.
“Guaranteed* to increase your life expectancy by 32.33 (repeating, of course!) percent!”
[Schematic: Warlord's Tactical Displays]
Permanently attaches a pair of Warlord’s Tactical Displays to the lenses of any Engineering goggles, permanently adding 45 Stamina and 50 Resilience Rating to them. Only your own goggles may be tinkered in this way, and tinkering your goggles causes them to become soulbound.
“Guaranteed* to show you the failure in your enemy’s tactics!”
Equipment
Tinfoil Hat – Pandaren were once an April Fool’s joke. I’m sure many adventurers would love protection from the bats that fly in the northern ice storms!
