Welcome to Lichborne, your weekly peek into the world of the death knight. Your host, Daniel Whitcomb, is enjoying the most wonderful time of the year, when a death knight can hang around in his natural habitat all day long without seeming creepy. Or no creepier than usual, at least.
As you approach the end game of WoW, one thing you may find out quickly is that the proper use of macros is a great way to take your game to the next level. Sometimes they streamline moves, other times they allow you to perform actions that would be otherwise impossible. Death knights are definitely no exception, and though we’d be here all week if I went through all the ins and out of macro theory, or even death knight macro theory, I figure right now is still a good time to get you started.
Let’s look at a few basic essential macros for the various roles and trees of the class.
DPS and PvP
One of the most basic DPS macros for a death knight is the burst macro, in which you get yourself as buffed as possible before unleashing your devastating last attack. Here’s one for Unholy:
#showtooltip Summon Gargoyle
/use 10
/use 13
/use 14
/use Potion of Speed
/cast Summon Gargoyle
This macro starts out by using your gloves (slot 10 being your glove slot). If you’re an engineer,

Each week Dominic Hobbs brings you Blood Pact. The weak mind fears the darkness because it holds the unknown. Blood Pact knows what resides in the shadows and yes, they should be afraid.
I was afflicted with some kind of corruption of my own last week, not sure if a warrior spell reflected it or what but it had me out of action either way. I don’t know how much attention you pay to spell icons but it took me a little while to realize just how nasty the icon for Corruption really is — nasty enough for China to censor it, in fact. It speaks well of how I was feeling, but hopefully the articles on the PTR changes kept you topped off with warlock goodness in Blood Pact’s absence.
This week we’re looking at starting a new warlock. This could be for someone new to the game, or rolling an alt. Either way, now is a great time to start leveling as a lot of the world you’ll be passing through will be changing with the advent of Cataclysm. So if you’ve never played a warlock, or even if you have, then get onto that character selection screen and stare blankly at the screen for half an hour while you try to think of that perfect warlock name.
What is a warlock?
Warlocks are magic-users with balls. I obviously don’t mean that in any literal way

They’re the names on everyone’s lips: Lord Jaraxxus. Onyxia. Yogg-Saron. You’re dying (literally!) to see these larger-than-life figures – but now that it’s almost time to look for a solid guild and get about the business of raiding, you find doubt bubbling to the surface. Work, school, family, other hobbies … Raiding is supposedly an intense pursuit. Do you have the time it takes to be a successful raider?
The short answer: Yes, you do have time. If you want to raid, somewhere out there is a guild that will work for you. The player population of WoW is so immense that finding a raid that fits your goals and schedule is certainly within the realm of possibility (if not within the actual realm you currently play on — pardon the pun). We obviously can’t tell each and every one of you exactly where to look for a custom fit, but we can give you some starting points to help you identify what to look for in the first place.
What type of raid experience do you want? If

Each week Dominic Hobbs brings you Blood Pact. The place where warlocks get to relax and reflect, to inspect their inner beings, meditate on their true self. The place were warlocks can, in quiet contemplation, realise just how truely awesome they are.
Glyphs are odd things. We’re no strangers to bolting things onto other things to make them better. Gems for example — you look about for the best one for your class and add them to your gear in the most beneficial way. Glyphs are much the same but instead of boosting the stats of your gear they modify your actual spells. This is something we locks have been thinking about recently what with the Soul Shard changes expected in Cataclysm — boosting our spells and driving even more power out of them is going to be our thing. I can’t wait.
In this article I’m going to take a journey through the glyphs available to us as we level up to 80 and then have a look at those we want to use while raiding. I must warn you that there is no mention of a glyph to make our fire green and I have refrained from any defamatory remarks concerning a certain Mr Belt. I hope this doesn’t spoil this week’s warlock moment too much for you.
Glyphs through the levels
You should first start shopping for glyphs at

I’m just going to let Alex and Matt kick off this week’s edition of WRUP with some notes on their plans for the weekend:
Alex: Using every tool at my disposal to thwart Rossi’s attempts at world liberation, so I may continue to hold it in my iron grip.
Matt: Your simian shocktroopers can’t stop me, Ziebart, any more than your Aerobots did!
Alex: Just you wait, Rossi. My cyborgephants hunger… for blood.
Matt: Ah, but you’ve forgotten, haven’t you? When you sealed me in the ancient Mines of Musculus all those months ago, you thought I was doomed. But you didn’t count on the inhabitants of those dank and deep pits, who blame you for their long imprisonment deep below the surface. Luckily for me, I had some Harvati in my trail rations, and so, I can call upon the MICEMEN OF MU!
Alex: Damn you, Rossi. Damn your eyes and all the beautiful stars within their depths! This isn’t over! This isn’t over.
Oh, boys, boys, you’ll never settle this argument with threats of violence. That’s what actual violence is for. And that said, let’s talk about what the WoW.com team is playing this weekend.
Adam Holisky (@adamholisky): Gearing up my hunter.
Alex Ziebart (@aziebart): Also, leveling my rogue.
